Research Direction of Discipline Theories of Art Study
1. History of Arts: History of Chinese Arts. History of Western Arts. Arts, Culture and Society.
2. Theory of Arts: Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Arts. Theory of Chinese and Western Arts. Contemporary Arts Theory: An Interdisciplinary Perspective.
3. Artistic Creativity and Criticism: Artistic Creativity and Industrial Research. Chinese and Western History of Arts Criticism, Principles of Arts Criticism.
Training Objectives
Students will grasp Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and Deng Xiaoping’s Theory, love the motherland, and abide by the laws and regulations. The students will enhance their capability of seeking truth from facts, rigorous learning, professional dedication, and the team spirit.
The School of Arts at Southeast University offers programs of instruction that prepare students for teaching the history and theory of arts at the school/college level, for independent research and writing, and for work of artistic management, media communications, creative industries, art creation and other departments at a higher level. Our graduates have gone on to hold positions in museums, media, government agencies and academic departments throughout the nation and abroad. Students admitted to graduate study in the School of Arts are expected to be candidates for the PhD degree. For all fields, the school’s minimum language requirement is a reading knowledge of two languages that are relevant to the student’s field of study and research interest. The student will be required to provide proof of proficiency in the languages.
Training Period
The program usually lasts 2-3 years and might be extended to 4 years.
Thesis

Literature Reading(for reference only, the same below)
Students are required to read at least 20 literatures on topics related to their thesis and research direction including ** 10 literatures in foreign languages and to write a literature overview.
Thesis Writing
In addition to compliance with the provisions of school, the qualifying paper (QP) is required of all students, even those who have completed a master’s thesis elsewhere. Emphasis is placed upon the student’s independence of thinking and research, ability to use primary source materials, and proficiency in writing and presentation. Thesis must be written in a systematic and complete manner, presenting clear concepts, correct argument, realistic description, concise writing structure, smooth and concise writing style, correct calculation, reliable data, and clear icons.
Thesis Evaluation
Thesis should be written based on students’ own study and research. The findings presented in the thesis should have higher academic value and positive impact on Artistic development of the world. Students are required to conduct at least one year research before being eligible for applying for a Master's degree.

Note: (1) The minimum total-credit requirements of Master's curricula: 28 credits for students of science and engineering; 30 credits for students of medical science; 34 credits for students of arts and management sciences. The minimum credit requirements of degree courses: 16 credits for students of science and engineering; 18 credits for students of arts, management science and medicine; other credits in non-degree courses. In addition, students should obtain3 credits from compulsory courses. (2) All courses are normally required to be completed within one and half years after registration. Degree courses are normally required to be completed within one year after registration. (3) Degree courses are subject to this course plan, non-degree courses can be chosen from "Graduate Courses Catalog". |
